Argonaut Wharf diving

Argonaut wharf is a great dive in Campbell river if you’re searching for octopus, and the pilings have accumulated a lot of marine life. You can reach Argonaut wharf by driving onto Spit Road, coming from Island Highway. After less than a kilometer you’ll have an RV park/campsite on your left and will go by a big warehouse on your right. After the warehouse you will come to a little parking lot. From here you can walk to a little entry close to the wharf.

As this is the mouth of the river there is a back eddy on normal high and low slack and it is best to dive in between the tides. Call the local dive operators, they will know exactly when you can dive. The water here is very cold so bringing a few jugs full of warm water is more necessity than luxury.

You can see all sorts of life on the pilings: sponges, anemonies, crustaceans and so forth. Octopus like to hide at the base of the pillars. Maximum depth is about 15 meters and there is ample to see all along the pilings.
