Diving the wreck of the VT100

The wreck of the VT100 used to be the most popular wreck to dive in BC. This was mainly due to the fact that it was the only wreck that could be accessed from the shore before Porteau Cove was opened. The VT100 is a similar vessel to the Nakaya in Porteau Cove.

The wreck is hard to find, but you can get a good idea of where it is in this report (page 9). It is approximately 300 meters from shore in 10 – 18 meters of water in belcarra park (map here). The marker on the map is about as close as I can get it, but be sure to check the report and make your own assessment. You may be searching for a bit before you find it.

This video shows ample life in between the steel and wood of the hull. Do not penetrate the wreck, as it is falling apart, and you risk entrapment.
